I have fixed several tension screws that were stripped (meaning that the thread on either the screw or the brass nut in the center of the resonator has been damaged...) Drill out the brass nut SLIGHTLY to the next larger size of hole, buy a thread tap for the size of screw you want to use, and cut new threads inside the brass nut. You should be able to find a selection of taps in metric size in a good hardware store. Get a new metric screw at the same time and you will be ready to go. Sometimes the nut in the middle of the resonator is aluminum; it doesn't matter. Brass or aluminum are easy to thread. You may need to use oil when you do it. And you should grasp the nut with pliers to keep it from revolving in the aluminum resonator when you are working on it.

Haven't used a thread tap in about 25 years so I don't remember: if I'll go for M3, should I use a 3mm drill bit? Or must the hole be slightly narrower?
